Produces vibrant red flowers late in the summer, a perennial shrub native to Mexico, where it is extremely popular with the hummingbird. Eat the flowers and leaves which have a wonderful pineapple scent, in fruit salads or drinks. You can also place leaves in the bottom of a cake tin to infuse your cake with a delicate flavour.
